I think best whip needs to have a monster truck style judging system. 3 judges, after each whip give your rating of 1-10 (10 being best). One judge rides fmx, one racer, and another person from another sport just so it's not based on "favorite riders"

i would have to agree on loseing style points for jerking head around it just doesnt look as smooth but still ridicious how far they can throw them bikes around.
I also agree on the voting system it does seem like a popularity contest and more like whos your fav rider even if there whips dont measure up but have all the votes

Having now watched the event, I have formed an opinion I haven't actually seen anywhere else yet. I'm Aussie and Jarryd McNeil is a great rider, but personally I thought Hansens whips were the best. They had the best style and flow of anyone out there, with still some good size. Potters were probably the biggest by angles, nobody's was as backwards as his, ET's was closest from what I could see with the atrocious camera work.

Personally my order probably would have been Hansen, Potter, ET, McNeil, Laninovich, Stenberg. Best Whip, not biggest whip being the key term in my mind here, Hanny's looked so much sicker to me, than anything I saw. He just has a rad style that appeals to me, so there's my 5c!

sorry for the double post.....but on a serious note... i was wondering if mcneil DID NOT whip his head around all crazy how he would be able to whip? seems like his whips are crazy ridiculous, maybe he needs to have the body movement to be able to whip like that ? not fashionable but still crazy whips, i know he can do those kind of whips doing 1 handed take off into the whip, i wonder why he wouldnt or didnt do that for the contest , would have been kool to see

In my opinion its 2 just different styles.

and it looks like the head movement is done to twist the bike furthe.

hoping that if the have best whip next year, I hope that they loose the voting

One thing that surprised me also, I was there in the Staples Center I wanted to vote at the end of the event, but by the time I got my phone out, the scores were already announced !! Like 30 sec after the end of the 6 min jam. I was like WTF ? How can you vote for somebody's whips if you can't watch everybody's during the whole 6 minutes ?!? Basically, the results were pretty much already done before they even started the jam. Even if I know it's a demo and stuff, it was pretty disappointing and letting the "popularity contest" part aside, it took a lot of excitement out of me ...

I think that X Games should just do one of two things:
1. Just make Best Whip a fairly judged event, meaning that either riders, or announcers, or even other X Games athletes, even from other disciplines, could be the judges. Just elect some un-biased commitee to judge this event.

2. Make it a demo, with no voting, no results, and no medals. Have it be just for fun and entertainment.

i also think there needs to be some kind of qualifier ... or vote in or some way the riders who deserve to be there can get there .... Bamburg, Cantrell, Parsons, Renner.
