I know they're not the greatest pictures in the world, but they'll give you an idea of our ramp. These pictures don't show the ramp finished, but still in progress. Poor lighting... but they'll do.

8.5' tall, 23' (or 24'?) long, 4' wide.

These are the sides, all framed up with the crossmembers off to the left.

sweet ramp:cool:, how long has it taken you?

WaussInd

Umm.. if we had worked on it continuously, maybe around 10 or 12 hours. We've only had the time to do it every weekend for a few hours, though :(

lookin good, what did ya use to bend the transition, does the ramp get bigger at the bottom

WaussInd
February 2nd, 2002, 01:39 AM
Do you mean like, wider at the bottom? No, it's the same width everywhere (4 feet). And to bend the metal, we just tacked it, had 2 guys pull on it and tacked and welded it. We framed the two sides up together so they would be identical.

Good job. Are you going to put wood or metal on top?

Also, will you have some extra supports on the sides to help support the 1" wide side rails?

Yep

Check out this picture of the ramp we have out here!! It's pretty sik.. The riders almost hit the roof

Slider... thanks. We were going to use expanded mesh for the surface, but we can get the plywood we need for free, so that's first. We're going to all set aside some money for an expanded mesh surface when it's time to replace the plywood.

As for the uprights, that's all we are going to have. I asked the guy that's helping us (Dave Bauer of Freestyle Industries) if it was going to be enough, and he said it would be. He has built the same ramp for 4 other people with no complaints, and he has been building ramps for around 5 years for various things.

Do you think we need more, or will this be alright?

I dont think you need any more uprights. If other people are satifyed wit the ramp you should be too :)

SevenInd, what size metal did u use on that ramp? Looks like small rectangular tubing and also what wall size?

oh and also how did u guys bend the rails?
thanks

WaussInd
February 10th, 2002, 07:35 PM
lol.. i dont know the thickness of it... but almost all of it is 2"x2" square tubing, and the cross members are 1"x2" and the side rails are 1"x2".

We bent the side rails by hand. just tacked it up and then pulled it down to the next upright, and tacked it, and then welded it all together. it actually did not affect our angle much at all... and it turned out even better because we were expecting it a little.

u mean u tacked the rail to the top of upright and then pulled down on the rail till it touched the support and then the next support and so forth down the ramp and tacked it has u went? I'm a little confused.

I'm debating on cutting, then bending mine but its not smooth that way though. Your way makes the rail look real smooth and a nice curve. Also if you could hint me on the designs i'd appreciate it!

And thats a mighty big welder u guys used!
I had one of those untill I took it back becaue I couldn't weld big stuff.

Yes, that's exactly what we did. It took two people pulling down on the side rails to bend them. I guess when you do this, the entire angle of your ramp changes (when you go to weld it up). But honestly, there was a minimal amount of change, and since we were expecting it, it turned out exactly how we wanted.

I could give you the plans... but I'd have to kill you ;)

Sorry.

thats what i plan on doing but how will it vchange the angel if its still on the supports? i dont get it and yours turned out fine?

I'm not totally sure on this.

Slider knows more about it... he's the one I learned that from!

Ah, that is what Mickey Diamond told me back in 1999. That was what started this whole Rev. thing. I was very upset at this and feared I would build a ramp that would hurt or kill my boys. I just don't want anyone else to have to go through the same thing I went through.

As for RedBull's question: I have my rails bent now, the cuts I show on the web site are for the one time ramp builder or someone that can't find a bending company. Anytime you weld on the Side Rails, they will expand downward. Some ramps warp as much as 5 inches.

I think SevenInd's angle will pull the Bottom Rails up when he bends the Side Rails to the supports but when he welds the Cross Supports in place they will counter this and it will all end up straight or close to straight. I have my rails bent to my specs so that when I am done welding, the angle is where I want it to be; within 1/2". Then, I can tweak it to my specs from there being I am using 1/16" thick metal.

so if i weld the cross suports on then seld the rails on it should be alright?

I personally would have no problem giving out the plans. The thing is, my friend makes a business with this (he has built ramps for Slednecks 4 or Slednecks 5... whatever the upcoming one is), and this is one of his only sources of income. He came up with the plans himself and he tested them for a while before he found the ones he was happy with, and we all promised him that we wouldn't give out the plans, since he's helping us build this at a HUGE discount.

Me and a few mates built a metal kicker ramp and it wasnt really hard at all, we have never welded, cut or nothing like that before and we whipped up a awsome ramp you can find at http://www.gravelrash2002.hothere.com

So if you had now knowledge of welding, how did you guys build that ramp? Im really considering trying to build my own, and i have no knowledge yet for welding. Thanks

If your serious about building it yourself, id suggest you go do some course, and learn to weld properly. thats what im doing soon.

having weak welds on a ramp is not smart ;)

nice ramp, how long did it take you to build that?

WaussInd
March 4th, 2002, 12:48 AM
All together, it probably took us like, a month :( If we would have worked on it very much... we could've had it done in a weekend, easy. We ended up just finishing it about a week ago. I'll take some pictures of the completed ramp soon.

Just jumped it for the first time today :) It rocks.

thanx

wot i recon id do if i ever get to bulid a ramp is get the 2 rails bent by a metal fabricator then build the rest our selfs.

kamikazi.. we just tacked the rails at the top, pulled it down, and had two guys hang on it to bend it down to the next rail... tacked it there, etc..

what is the degree or angle and how tall is it?

WaussInd
March 27th, 2002, 02:21 PM
I believe the angle is 39.. 38. Something around there. It's 8.5 feet tall. It's been finished and jumped already, I'll try and get some pictures of the finished product.
