lol :D
Its all about confidence and bike control. On a dirt hit, the further u lean it over on the upramp, the bigger the whip will be. But it takes a LOT of practice, its not like a 5 min practice and then your done...heh

I've always wanted to know if a whip is a hard trick to pull off.. Like, do you go out riding one day, and then think to yourself " here we go.. im going to do a whip " or is it just a riders natural instinct??
Im pretty sure if you were going to do a hart attack, then you would prepare it in your mind before you jump, but is a whip the same?

some guys seem to be a natural with whipping (RC and lil dis come to mind)
but most ppl need to take time to learn to throw the bike around like that.
Just try it next time u ride man, all ya gotta do is start slow, turn it a little more each time u try.
Sometimes the bike slides a bit on the upramp (on dirt) if u lean it over too hard, but eventually that feels really cool, u just need to get used to the "out of control" feeling ;) (ive bailed a couple times cos it felt like i was gonna crash :D)

yeah i was practicing them one day in mud and and idd go off the jump with the bike completley sideways so it was on the steering stop. it was cool.

i found out that turning the bars even a lil helps alot for me

Today I tried something new. After i started turning on the upramp, id pull to the left, and look like 90 degrees left too, and it helped get them a lot more sideways :)

i think u learn whips as u ride on a track, thats how i did anyway. i ended up learning them from jumps the u need to turn in the air on a bit and from absorbing the takeoff ramp to jump lower in the air. i think it is just about going out and feling your way threw it, one technique might be perfect for some and fatal to others, its kinda like personal preference but listen to wut others have to say and try them

aiight, whips are pretty easy, like if your gonna whip to the right, start towards the left, and as you come to the take off, heading towards the right, lean at the top and turn your bars to the left. this way you use the bikes momentum goin right, and make the handlebars go left, and the back end comes around. the farther you lean, the more flat you will get. And the farther you can get the front end downb4 you land and while your comming down makes the whip look better. To bring it back, turn the bars back to the right, and I take my right leg and put it against the sidepanel and pull the bike back underneath me.
Thats how i do it, and it comes pretty natually for me though, with racing experience.

i ve done just what crusty has.
i was on a dirt ramp and i felt the bike slide out so i bailed and matt or wiredhart or what ever you want to call him, anyways he is the sorta "pro" rider around cause he knows more than any of us cause he has been riding sence he was 3. but he asked why i bailed and he siad it was normal to feel a slide some times and some times it can actualy make them bigger. but dont do like me and first time you try, whipit completly flat and cant bring it back at all. it sucks real real real bad to land like that.
when i do whips i come up to the ramp and at the same time i preload with one foot more than the other (left foot if you want the bike to our to the right and vise versa) and lean to the same side you preloaded on. and when i leave the ramp keep kinda pushing with my left foot and lift with my right and push towards the left with my hands.
and to bring it back its pretty much just instinct but i just pull the bike as upright as i can get it and then pull back toward me with my feet and give the throttle a twist to straighten the bike a little more. i typed alot and no one will probly read this, but as far as im concerned its how to do it. thats how i was told anyways:p
