I just bought the new Finch CD yesterday. I really like it. The lead singer reminds me of Chino from Deftones.

coheed & cambria...soft rock? i dont know if i would say that at all. its more of an edgy emo sound...maybe you didnt hear the screaming, the punk-ish guitars (on some songs), the super amazing drumming..etc. did you listen to any of the lyrics? "cannabalistic unfit family ties...in a series of knocks to the young girls head side"..."teacher hand me the pole..the one that kicks your head in". it may not be heavy...by my normal standards...and yeah..his voice is super high (which is the best part and the one that got me to love them originally) but i wouldnt call it soft rock. it fits almost perfectly into the Emo category of music...so maybe you just wont like that genre. i dont know...im not gonna tell you to like it...i would never do that. but i would give it a long hard listen before dismissing it...its not metal..its not trying to be...but it IS good...really friggin good. :D

um..i dont know..ask waussind how he listens to emo..ask fullthrottleSMP how he listens to emo...its all personal taste bro...you think it sucks...some of us love it. who really cares? :)
kx...number 6 on the album starts out with this awesome scream...and has a lot of backround screaming in it....most of the screaming on the album is backround...but its all there...take a good listen. but again...if you dont like it...thats cool. ive been listening to that album for ages now...its incredible...very original and full of talent...most bands do not have either of those things. and ive seen them live multiple times....they're just an amazing band...thats all there is to it. but...to each his own.
ps-number 6 is called "Hearshot Kid Disaster". and then listen to "Devil In Jersey City" and hear the punk guitars. its not that hard to figure out that they are NOT soft rock....they are really edgy emo....like i said before. latas. :D

you didnt call on me, but ya, they are cool, like all bands (except millencolin) there are always a song or two you dont like, but i like them, i only like some emo too. not a big fan but coheed is alright by me.:)

Coheed bloody rocks. I am almost completely hardcore (speaking in terms of music), and I love Coheed. WaussClothing is the same way. Everybody loves em!
Maybe he only downloaded Junesong Provision and based his opinion of the band on that song alone... seeing that it is acoustic and "soft." But man... I love that song.
Anyway... I can almost guarantee that if you listen to the cd a couple of times, they will begin to grow on you (if you don't like them from the start) and you will then love them.

Coheed & Cambria rules!!! At first I didn't like them, but that's because I was like "man this guy sings like a girl" so I didn't pay attention to the music or the lyrics. But after the second time I heard them I loved it. Those guys are all very talented, and everything flows and the lyrics are cool as hell. They are almost Remembering Never style, but the way the guy sings instead of screaming you wouldn't think they were evil unless you knew and paid attention to the lyrics.
But as for the emo thing, I don't really consider them emo. They are more of their own style "coheed" lol, because they are so original nothing else really compares. I guess you have to have a real love and appreciation for music to like these guys. That's why I and I'm pretty sure why WaussInd and Poogoblin listen to underground, and what is popular in the underground scene like coheed. Because their is actual thought behind what goes into writing these songs.
Coheed Rules!!!

i definetly agree that calling them emo is not the best way to describe them...but its hard to describe them...so i gave up and called them that.
cody...did you know that Junesong Provision is not accoustic on the real cd? strange.

Music Genre's are getting a little out of hand. Emo?? I just don't get why everything has to have a label attached. And does "emo" stand for emotion? Or am I way off there.....?
Poog, Jade, Cody......how many diferent "metals" are there, like is goregrind a real genre?
I'm just in a complaining mood I guese........ :D I would rather just listen to Dashboard and not worry about what they are.
p00g0blin
November 5th, 2002, 07:56 PM
goregrind...gore metal...metal core...emocore..screamo...hardcore...punk..pop punk..drunk punk...speed metal...power metal...death metal....grind core...
the list goes on forever....i cant stand the constant labeling of music...but if you cant beat em...join em. i just gave up complaining about it. like cody and i were posting about how many "core's" there are..its ridiculous. it will never go away though. people seem to need to put labels on things...its comfortable.
emo=emotion...it could..."emotional"....whatever...its not actually the real meaning of it...and i have since forgotten the real meaning of the word pertaining to the genre...but it has now grown to mean "emotional".
dashboard...heh...my home town..rock. :D

November 5th, 2002, 07:56 PM
oh yeah...Dashboard is pretty much Emo too. :D

You could list soooo many genres it's stupid. I don't usually use a lot of labels... but if I'm trying to describe a band to someone who has never heard them before.. or describe a really specific sound, I'll use them. But for the most part, I use these the most:
Hardcore: Straight up screaming and relatively basic music.
Metalcore: Hardcore, but with some metal riffing and stuff.
Punk: Ya know.
Hardcore Punk: Punk... but grungier or something. With slacked screaming or something.
Black Metal: Dunno how to describe it. Fast drumming with melodies and scratchy vocals?
Death Metal: Dunno how to describe it. Fast drums, grungy guitars, low pitched vocals (generally?)

I know this wont really apply to this thread but I couldnt find the one about Hardcore metal, I could have swore there was one in here, but I could be wrong....anywayssss...
I just saw a video for In Flames. I cant remember the name of the song. "Cloud" something. Umm, it was ok. I guess thats not my style of music. Now I just have to hear something by KSE. Then Ill be in tune with you all on those bands. Hahaa, I guess Im just stuck in the Metallica, Deftones stuff!!
p00g0blin
November 12th, 2002, 08:49 PM
the deftones suck. old metallica is good.
the video you saw was called "cloud connection". its not their best song...not nearly as good as the stuff on Clayman or Colony. so dont give up on them yet.
PastorsGirl
November 13th, 2002, 06:40 AM
Deftones do not suck!!! I cant beleive you just said that.........
Ok, I wont give up on them yet. But I can tell you that it doesnt seem like my type of music, but I will listen to more. Im open to it....
MAN...I cant beleive you said that about Deftones. I love them, have for years....
WaussInd
November 13th, 2002, 10:22 AM
i actually like the Adrenaline cd from the Deftones. Probably because it was one of the first 'heavy' bands i ever heard. But the more I hear it, the more I start to dislike it. It's pretty rappy. But man.. after that, they just went downhill.. and fast.
PastorsGirl
November 13th, 2002, 11:26 AM
Deftones first album was the best, but I like all their albums, and I dont think it sounds rappy at all. I cant stand rap music, so that would mean I didnt like Deftones if it was rappy. You just arent appreciateing the music the way I do. And thats ok. We all like different things. Im not putting down In Flames and KSE. Im giving them a try.....
I just cant beleive you would say they suck, they really dont......but thats just my opinion!!!
p00g0blin
November 13th, 2002, 01:54 PM
ive heard everything the deftones have ever put out. except maybe some rare songs....i am not judging them prematurely here. i just really think they suck. nothing special sticks out about them or their music. but again..that is just me. dont worry about what i think sucks...i dont think any less of you for liking different stuff.
PastorsGirl
November 13th, 2002, 08:13 PM
Hmmm, Im not worried about anything. I just cant find a reason why you would say they suck. I guess when Deftones are dissed it bugs me, cuz I think they are awesome. BUT.........so be it. To each their own. I guess I said the same to you once, about In Flames not being my type of music. I just didnt say they sucked....Ehhh, its cool. No biggie....
p00g0blin
November 13th, 2002, 08:18 PM
when i say something "sucks" it means that i find nothing interesting or appealing about their music. the deftones fit that category. nothing about them makes me want to listen to it...and ive tried. thats all. its just my opinion.

i like deftones as well......i dont know they just have there own unique vocals (my opinion).....i seem to listen to them when im in a pissed off mood for some reason
best song ever by them: Be quiet and drive

Yo, jeff. Does the lead singer from dying fetus distort his voice??? Heard some of their stuff the other day and that just sounded way to low to be a "normal" voice...
WaussInd
November 13th, 2002, 09:33 PM
The deftones aren't even close to my favorite band... but they are better than 90% of the stuff that's on the radio these days (the other 10% being on the oldies station). If someone is listening to them in a car or something, I can at least tolerate it :)

just heard the new Audioslave cd, it's so sweet, Chris Cornell has one of the best voices every and the RATM rhythm section still rocks, I hate most new music, but this stuff is fantastic. btw way, someone kill Saliva please, damn they suck
Jester
November 14th, 2002, 02:44 AM
i agree chris cornell has a sick voice, and ratm had an interresting and wicked sound.. but im not a big audioslave fan (yet...)... ive only heard their first song.. but from what i heard... its nothing special.. its good.. but not enough to make me wanna pay for a cd...

Glad someone else likes them too. But I dont care if noone likes them. We all have our likes and dislikes and Im not bashing you for it p00, I just was bummed to hear you say you thought they sucked.....
Deftones is just a rare band, they dont get a lot of radio play. Which is good because then the songs never annoye you. I can listen to all of their CDs and never get tired of it. Where as like...Godsmack or something, after I bought the CD I couldnt listen to it beacuse it was played on the radio a billion times. But that doesnt mean I think they suck. I like Godsmack too...Ehhh, its cool though.
I still have to hear something by KSE huh p00?
WaussInd
November 14th, 2002, 10:21 AM
KsE has been on mtv a few times i guess... maybe you'll catch em on there if you ever watch it..
If not, the stuff shouldn't be too hard to find. They are getting to be pretty popular. You should definitely give them a shot :)
My Last Serenade, Fixation of Darkness, Self Revolution, and Rise Inside are all great. Actually... the whole cd bloody rocks. So any song really...
