not entirely, but their still cool

yeh they're both brilliant bands, but they just aren't anythin like that Distrurbed, Mudvayne, and Sevendust nonsense :D

but Mick if u like fast and catchy riffs, definately give them a listen...Testament's older stuff is Thrash, they're newer stuff is more Deathy in a way, but not...i spose it's just heavier than their old style. :D

Meshuggah is great, but sometimes very hard to listen to, because they're so talented and can use the weirdest of time signatures...so when u think a riff is gonna end, something else will jump up in front of it etc...it's weird, but so good!! keep in mind they're a hell of alot heavier than those nonsense metal bands.

p00g0blin
September 24th, 2002, 08:04 PM
didn't earth chrisis break up? hopefully. when they tried to become a metal band..it was all over. the "all out war" ep was pretty sick though.

and the new Glassjaw album is pretty damn good. from what ive heard of it. Jeff was playing it when he tattooed my lip...granted i wasnt paying that much attention..but what i heard sounded pretty cool.

Dude, check out Shadows Fall and Helloween if you like some serious riffing. Heavy stuff too - Shadows Fall did an insane cover of Pink Floyds Welcome to the Machine. And then there's stuff like Obituary, Sepultura, Unleashed, Morgoth(not around anymore but they still kick A##), Morbid Angel, etc, etc....

Obituary are pretty good, and Morbid Angel are f'n gods.

But Sepultura were SO good on 'Arise' and before-hand, after that they just sucked...i hate how bands do that. stear away from their roots, into sucky land.

Slammer_74
September 29th, 2002, 07:16 PM
AcrotisM, I hear ya. Old school Sepultura is what I'm talking about, Chaos A.D. even has some choice tracks on it. But what can you do when your lead singer leaves the band cause he's mad? Any thoughts on Max Caveleras solo foray - Soulfly?

See what happens when you abandon your brother and 2 wicked talented band mates because of a mangement dispute... Yeah I think they're pretty rotten too - although I did happen to catch them live and they played some old s### from Arise, pretty cool to see that.

And an addition to my first post in this topic: SLAYER they are the absolute god's of all that is heavy, without them there would be no metal!

p00g0blin
September 29th, 2002, 07:33 PM
Slayer definetly rules. they are insanely talented and have shown they can still do it after all these years. they've stayed heavy where other bands (metallica) have gone soft....but...there would be metal without them. thats just how i feel. but i do absolutely love slayer.

I suppose you're right, but you have to admit their influence reachs far and wide in Metal...

Bands like Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden are the anchors that started the whole genre and all its spinoffs - I just get a little cranked a up about Slayer sometimes - Absolutely SICK live....

p00g0blin
September 29th, 2002, 07:44 PM
i definetly agree....my favorites all list slayer as being one of their influences...In Flames and The Haunted all have members that list Slayer albums as their favorites of all time. like i said...i love slayer. but yer right...sabbath and maiden came way before...Iron Maiden is to thank for everything that is metal today....Sabbath was cool...but Maiden was GREAT!!! still are actually. :)

September 29th, 2002, 08:04 PM
yeah i was there. that was amazing. not the best ive seen..actually..the best large concert ive seen..them and metallica at Foxboro stadium. im not a concert person though...i like small shows. stuff that the El-n-Gee down in New London...The Palladium in Worcester...places like that. i was just at Lupo's in Prov. last night..that was probably the best thing ive ever seen. In Flames and Killswitch Engage....*drool*.

Killswitch Engage is playing the Gee this upcoming friday...you goin?

um...the only things i can think of coming to the webster soon are...Dashboard Confessional in Oct. and New Found Glory/Further Seems Forever/Finch in early November....there is probably more...but i havent really read the Advocate lately either. except for the article my friend wrote on In Flames this week.

Yea..that was the show with Sentenced and Dark Tranquility....Dark Tranquility was pretty good...Sentenced was pretty lame...the show didnt wake up until Killswitch started playing...but then it got completely insane. amazing show. :D

p00 - I'm from Windsor - striking distance to both Hartford and Springfield, it's great when I get weekends off... Sucks when I have days off during the week though - thank God for sick days. I'll have to grab a copy of the Advocate your buddies article is in this weeks, Right?

p00g0blin
September 30th, 2002, 01:19 PM
yea its this weeks issue. page 36. katie vrabel wrote it. anyways...the KsE show at the Palladium is Saturday night....Friday night is here in New London at the El-N-Gee...probably a little too southern for someone from mass to come down for...especially when they are playing worcester the next night. are you goin to the palladium show? im thinkin about going...dont know if i wanna spend both weekend nights at shows...although KsE is just THAT good.

my boss lives in windsor...i dont get out that way too much. i only take 91 when i have to go to New England Cycle in Hartford...which is not that often anymore. how often do you hit Hartford?

With the opening of the new club in Hartford probably alot more often - My friend is the one of the House DJs for Club Blu, it's opening up this weekend in the old Russian Lady, supposed to be a high class Techno house.

Due to my screwy days off I only really have the chance to go out about one weekend a month - it blows, but it pays the bills....
