who will be the 1st aussie to do a flip, do you think one will get pulled out at the sydney freestyle masters or will it take metz at zero gravity to hype the locals up to it?
^kicker^

i would have been guessing kinnaird or (dan)hall ..but i dont think hall will attemped it for a little while untill he is all healed up. so i'll go with Kinaird and maybe JP.. another rider who i dont think is that far off one is shaun richardson, i saw him at melbourne freestyle masters and he was goin off.:D
wheres zero gravity at? and when

i would say it will be after metzger comes here.
and i would say richo.
I know dayne is a mad rider, but i just cant picture him doing the backflip before a fair few other aussies.

My bet is on J.P. or Schubring as they are both good BMX riders. Schuie is sussing a popper ramp and dirt landing with the aim of doing something after he finishes his busy schedule, which takes up the next five weeks. I also reckon J.P. might have some secrets about an attempt soon. Peto is on standby to shoot the first attempt, so if anyone's keen let me know. He told me he spoke to Tareik, and it sounds like he's all talk and no action, but I guess we'll soon see ay! Goba.

fest_fmx...jp duznt have the balls to do it? ? ? yeah right, JP is one of the sikest riders out, he was absolutely going off at the melbourne round of freestyle masters, way more than Urek was.
e.g . . . he proved he will try somthing different when at the fmx masters he did a d/ramp to d/ramp jump AND launched off the bmx d/ramp to one of the freestyle landings. so im guessing that he Does have the balls to try somthing like the backflip

so the flip debate gos on.
i honestly think that whoever does it first does it.
i think that the whole backflip thing is overrated and alot of people are saying they will do it or try it for the wrong reasons.
i think it is a trick that if you are not totally prepared for there could be some serious injury in store. the guys in the states who have done them or tryed them have trained there arse of for it.
i really want to try one and i think with the right situation and training i could do one but its all that first attempt. i for one am not pushin to get the fame of being the first one im just going to take my time and do it when im ready.

safety gear aint gonna stop the bike breaking your bones if it lands on you.
i think theres too many people thinking they can do the backflip since a few guys have landed it....it should be done when a rider feels they are ready, and have no doubt they will land it...not just to get their name out

you have to be a bit of a nob to have the bike land on you seeing your not racing. you can strategically plan it.

anything can go wrong. if you are fully commited to getting the roatation, you wont be thinking about bailing. and if you screw it up, its likely that it can hit you.
but whatever. one of these days some kid will get paralised, and maybe then people will learn.

iv only ridden motorcross bikes for 6 months
thats why im going to pull it in 2-3 months
so i can get fit flexi and realy balanced
plus im building a dirt jump to backflip off on a pushy and hopefully in a friends dam on a #### pushy.
i did use to race pushies though
so believe it or not its goin to be pulled in 2-3 months
and my bike can see the future
i look into the shiny fork tubes and i see all plus i can look in the pipe and see carbon.
think about it all you have to do is get one little rotation
a ruler or scorpian would be more dangerous

...shouldnt you learn to ride, and jump properly before you try and get sponsors?!?
can you even do decent sized jumps, or any tricks?
and as for the ruler or scorpion being more dangerous - definetly not. most tricks you can slowly work up to, or sometimes there is an easier trick before it. not so with the flip (other than practicing on bmx).

Motor Sport is dangourus period. You can just as much get killed goin on a weekend trailride than you can attemting a back flip.
If Tommy tries it over a small gap (like the ones that Calab and Pastrana were doin um off) he could do it with some training.
^kicker^
August 31st, 2002, 12:25 AM
yea... he MIGHT land it with some training..
but i think what everyone else is getting at is that tommy should do more than 6months riding before he attemps a flip, if he does try it and bends himself up and if other amatures do the same thing, its NOT going to be good for the sport.
we are thinking safety tommy, even if ya dont beleiv it
tommyugn

thanks for the support
but hey all the cautious people, why not try things?
yeah its raising the risk factor but think about it you could get slammed or mowed down by some drunk in a car while walking to the shops
or being on a trail and hitting a tree
i know it is raising the danger level
and how do you progress in life without taking risk.
im just going to be one hundered persent positive and all will go sweet.
do you people out there who dont believe even ride?
and if you do, do you wrap yourself in bubble wrap first?
my suspension has just been dialed in for a flip well big jumps anyway.
one more thing six months six years, it doesnt matter there is no such thing as natural talent. its all about how far you push it and how fast you learn. didnt you here about how pastrana taught his cousin to ride at his place and a week later his cousin did a flip.
so accept its goin down and support it, if you do , thanks heaps

When caleb didnt make the rotation, it looked like he kinda just tilted the bike over a bit, and he landed in the soft mulch stuff.

hey idiot, i mean tommy, it sounds like u dont have much bike control,if u can only do nacs and cans. have watched nearly all the backy vids out there, i am contemplating it myself. but to do a flip u need total bike control, u cant just roll up to a near vert lip and blip the throttle and hope to flip ur bike. u have to know bike balance sub conciously. u have told everyone that u are gonna try one, and u still havent. u MIGHT get in a magazine if u do it, but if u dont, everyone will rort u for ###king up.
