the word is that kawasaki is still making the KX 125, but they will not bring any to North America. i think its the begining of the end for 2 strokes :( :( :(

the introduction of the aluminum frame on the yz helped sell a lot. i hope they dont die out, but its hard to compete with us four-bangers

Kawasaki dropped the 125 from their 06 line up.

The 250f has spelled the end for 125's.

But 2 stroke 250's will live on for a long while yet, so dont worry too much.

i dont know with everyone dropping their 125's i would only give 250's a few more years before they get dropped off the list of bikes being sold.

if anyone here has the chance to ride a 05 250f, and an 05 yz125( fastest 2 stroke 125 for this year) back to back you will see why no one is buying 125's and they are going off the market. the 250f pulls harder earlier, is less picky about witch gear you run it in, and requires far less clutch work. The 125 has one advantage, it weighs a few pounds less, but with aluminum framed 4 storkes that won't last long eather. the 125 is being phased out b/c the 250f is faster, and in a world of racercs (myslef included) faster is better.
The dinosours died b/c they could not adapt, the 2 stroke will also die.

the only reason 2 strokes are being phased out is because of stupid AMA rules. the first one is the Unleaded gas rule. It is completely pointless, and its kills 2 strokes, but doesnt affect 4 stokes at all. The second one is the rule that states 4 strokes up to 250cc can be run in the 125 class and 450cc in the 250 class. If the AMA allowed 2strokes to be bored out to a max of 250cc in the 125 class and 450cc in the 250 class, then the 2 strokes would still be the dominant bike.

just my personal opinion but i seriously think there should be 4 clases between those four bikes ( 125, 250 four stroke, 250, 450 four stroke)... but their would have to be a alot of riders to do so.. just my opinion

i think it all has to do with the EPA too. i bet the EPA got on all the manufacturers arse about producing 2-strokes, which make more smoke than a 4-stroke. if anyone hasen't ever ridden a 250f or 450f and you still bash them then you have no right to talk. i'm still running the '00 rm125 and in my opinion it's still one of the fastest 125's ever made. i am switching to 4-stroke next year, but not because i like them better but because the competition is getting so tough if you are still running a 2-stroke. and just like OD623 said, it's less picky about the gear you run it in and requires less clutch work, meaning you can go into a corner in 3rd and come out in 3rd, rather than a 125 you go in 3rd and come out in 2nd

Yesterday I went out to Lake Piru MX. First time riding a big bike in, quite some time. I've never ridden a 125, and I got off 85s about a year ago +. I was riding a 2005 Rm 125. Most fun i've had in along time..Didn't seem like it had a lot of power, but the handeling of it was excellent. Their was a guy out their who had an 05 yz250f. He let me take it a few laps, and wow. What a difference in motors. The thumper allowed me to do so many things I couldn't do on the 2 stroke. Mainly stuff out of corners. After the finish line table at Piru, theirs a right hand turn, into a table top / single or a jump on jump off. The faster guys where going inside, jumping the table over the single, into the inside. I wasn't able to make it over the single from the inside on the 125, but on the thumper I made it no problem.

Another example is after the step up/table right in front, theirs a left hand turn, into a uphill type double. I was having to go midway / outside to do it on the rm125. On the 250f, I'd ride hard into the very inside rut, and it'd pull me out to do the double no problem.

Another thing I liked about the thumper is the fact that the compression put on the breaks for me. Made it very easy to go to the inside after the downhill, and it was also easier to ride into the corners, hader.

After yesterday, I summed it up, im getting a 250f. Probably a 06 Rm-z250, but im not sure. Theirs a lot of good bikes to choose from for 06, so we'll see.
