We built our ramps for about $500 australian, $250 american. I dont know why it costs every one so much, just go to a bulk dealer of steel and buy it , dont buy from a fabricator cause they charge way more. I cut welded and made my whole ramp by myself, i can weld pretty good so its strong.

I am glad to see that so many of you have the welding skills to build your own ramps. Like any other business, people need a significant enough mark-up to make a profit, and I think that is why they seem expensive. Jewelry typically has a 600% markup which is an excessive example, but it is cool that many of you can build your own. When you do boil the cost down and compare buying a ramp against many other investments wether you categorize a ramp as a business need (as a pro athlete that makes money at the sport) or as recreation (I want a ramp to go along with my bike, my $60,000 sand rail, and my Cadilliac golf cart)- I think the mark-up most of you pay is in line. We have gone from wood, to rhino-lined wood, to expanded metal, and let me tell you, expanded metal is the way to go. Just make sure you lay the metal the right way for traction.

Mine was expensive, cause the metal we used was a lot wider than what everyone else is using (it was far too heavy aswell) There was also a LOT of metal in the ramp, i didnt know exactly how to make the structure, so i thought it build it with extra metal for strength :)
Then there was the plywood, which was very expensive

ask maybe some local bike shops for financial support for the ramp and say you will have a side sheet with there logo on it or sumthin. Also think of it as a business investment in your fmx carrer then it doesnt seem so expensive:p

WE HAD IT SET AT 80 FEET FOR OUR SHOW, WE CAN JUMP IT ANYWHERE FROM 60 TO MAYBE 100+, BUT ANYWAYS IT COSTED 2,200, BUT NOW I RIDE FOR HIM SO I GET DEALS ON OTHER ONES IM GETTING. DONT LET THE PRICE FOOL YOU, SOME RAMPS MIGHT BE $1,500, BUT THE FURTHEST YOU CAN GO IS 65 FEET! THATS GOOD IN ALL, BUT I LIKE TO GO A BIT FURTHER. OH MONSTER, YOU KNOW JULIAN D'USSEAU??????

BOONG, do what I told someone else, ring up the local pool guys, they will give you free dirt, especially if you are going to give them and ad, they would prolly do it without the ad tho too.
