Bought my first bike, could use some help

Hey, I've been lurking here for awhile, and finally decided I needed to go bigger and faster than I was going riding Downhill Mountain bikes.

I bought a '97 RM250 (pick it up next week), that has extremely few hours on it and looks brand new.

I was wondering if there is anything crucial to know about the '97 RM's, and also if someone could suggest what oil to run. (I figure on running ~38:1?)

i reckon you should run 32:1, and I'dd use Amsoil 2-stroke racing oil.

If you want to make it look newer, the 2000 radiator shrouds will bolt right on, they look a lot better, and you can get graphic kits for it then. My cousin did that, and i thought he got a new bike. They are nice bikes though, good luck with it.

thanks for the tip about the plastic.

now all there is to do is not get throttle happy the first time on it, and loop it.

yamalube is garbage! there is a reason why yamalube is $2 and the good stuff is $10! i am gettin my 2000 CR250 tommorow, and i had a 96Rm125, actually i still got it for now! and i wanted to put 99 shrouds on, i didnt know who to ask, so i asked suzuki and they said no you cant do it! so i never attempted it. #### i wish i did!! oh well, myCR should be better!! but thanx for lettin me know about hte shrouds!:)

i use goldenspectrum its what the pro's use too

a trick is for the throttle so it wont stick is to not put it on all the way, keep it off a bit, dont notice anything, and i havent had my throttle stick since i was like 9 with my cr 60

i like the silkolean at 40:1 have fu with the bike. i give you a hint on riding a 250 you have to pin the throttle and drop the clutch the get them going good

yeah i just got my 2000 CR250, the thing pulls catwalks pretty good, never rode it and i took it down my street cause i was anxious, tried a catwalk, had it goin real nice, got ####y,, gave it a snap on the throttle, and i almost soiled myslef! had no helmet on, oh and i was goin 3rd gear! lol 250's rule dude, i know you will enjoy it.
