What the ! 84guy....obviously he didn't read the post too well.

danny,
I would recommend using Motal 800 for your premix oil, it might cost a bit more, but it's worth every cent.... about 40:1 would be a good ratio to use. And i would recommend you use premium unleaded petrol.

So for 10 litres of petrol, add 250mL (40:1 ratio) of ya premix oil...
It's simple to mix petrol and ya oil....just measure out the amount of oil and pour it into your drum of petrol...then give the drum a good shake so that the oil mixes properly.
Never pour straight petrol into ya tank on ya bike then try to add ya oil....that's a no no.

good luck

][V][][V][-to-death, thats the answer ive been lookin for! thanx! ill follw your advise. just curious though..why is it not advisable to pour the fuel into the tank and then adding the oil? theoretically, i could still shake the mixture in the tank by rocking the bike back and forth(hmmm, that reminds me of something)

another question: should i turn the fuel switch to the off position when im done riding? especially when i dont use the bike for a few days?

yep shut your fuel off when you are finished! i even turn mine off even if ive stopped for a 1/2 hour break. but thats just me.

and for you Q on mixing in the tank, i dont know why exactly i have an idea. if your tank is like an RM or YZ the tank sits on the frame, and it splits the tank into two parts pretty much. i think that if you pour the oil in, it will sit in the one side and not mix properly. but on newer CR's such as yours with the ALUM. frame the tank is not designed like that. and also it is harder to properly mix the gas and fuel with odd numers like 7, (as in 7 litre tank) and so on, but yeah 40:1 is good, its easy to mix at that ratio too! nice and easy! good luck and have fun, im goin to pick up my 2000 CR250 tommorow! im pumped!!!

Yeah ont.freerider is right....
Best off not mixing in your tank cuz it might not mix properly.

i read that you should shake your can for about 2 min b4 you use it just to make sure its all mixed and not to rely on a quick shake or a bumpy raod to shake it up.. i also knew this guy who didnt shake his gas (1st 2 smoke as well) but anyways he fried his piston

If I can jump in here with a quick mixing question...

after pre-mixing oil/gas and letting it sit (ie a week between rides), is it necessary to shake it again? Does it separate with time?

not sure if it separates, but i always re-shake it anyway, better to be safe than sorry ;)

and the reason to shut your gas off is cause if your needle and seat is just a little leaky, your carb will fill up with gas, and your motor will be flooded the next time you try to start it, just don't forget to turn it on when you ride again, i know this guy and he forgot to turn his gas on and he was going up to a 60 foot double and when he was right on the face of the jump his bike quit cause the gas was off.

yep it seprates it aso sepetrates in your tank as well one of the reasons not to leave gas in your tank for too long and b4 you ride say after a day of riding you should holf the front brake and try and shake the tank a lil. shake b4 every time you pour

yeah i always hold the front brake and pump the forks, it shakes the gas good, make sure you do it good, cause the oil will sink to the bottom cause its heavier. just a note to some ppl cause you were askin about leaving gas in for a while, gas tends to go "stale" aka. BAD after about 3 months. just a good fact i picked up!
