On my yz i go up to second then ride around and then i'll pull in the clutch and push down to first but like on my other bikes it stops when i get it into first meaning i can't push it down any further but on my yz i can keep on pushing it down with my foot and then all of the sudden it stops and it feels like its in first?....Weird? You guys no what the problem is? Are my clutch plates worn?...What is going on it runs fine but that is the only problem! Thanks for the help guys!

When i go from second to first its like it won't engage into first...Hey crusty i don't care i don't use first that much either its just that it would be nice to know that i have it!:D Plus i don't want it to spread to my other gears if anything is wrong! So do you guys know what i mean pretend your on your bike riding around in 2nd then your going to go into first but its like when you push down nothing is there clicking or anything...then all of the sudden it works. It bugs me because i just want to know if it is normal? Thanks guys!:)

When it does click into gears is it as smooth as all the other gears are? How much freeplay is at your clutch lever? And if you think it is the clutch then check yourself. Pull the clutch cover off and look at the basket. Does it have deep grooves where the plates hit? Smell the plates do they have a burnt smell? If any of those are answered yes then i would get a new clutch basket or plates whatever it is, but i'm not sure if that would fix your problem.

I have a '99 YZ125. Let me know how it is after you check it? How did the oil look when you changed it?

It is not the clutch.
You probably have a bent shifter fork or, if you are lucky, it is only a bent part in the clutch side. Not sure what it is called but it has a ratchet mechanism that is likely bent or broken. This will cause your bike to work in all gears but first. Someone probably landed on the shifter instead of the foot peg.
Pull the right side off and look at this piece while moving the shifter. You will probably see the problem in there.

Just a little bit of filings in my tranny oil if not at all. Pretty clean! Thanks slider i will do that but it will work in first just about 9 out of ten times it will work then that one time it won't shift into first. Thanks guys!:)

it's poll a shifter ork. Either hat or one of your gears gets stuck in the tranny. My friend seized his neutral gear to the shaft and it wouldn't go in neutral. So it could be getting caught on the shaft that every tenh time. so if noone else'sideawrks look at the tranny gears( this involves spliting the cases. not too hard but you do need some special pullers but if you have the right stuff (drill press and thick metal) you can make ur own pullers.

i know exactly wat slider is talkin about, its wat the gearshift fork meshes with, be careful when takin it out, there are springs and pins, you have to hold it all together so you dont lose anything! they things thatmove on it are called "shifter pawls"! and yeah i would definately look at that like rick told you to! its park of your gearshift linkage.
check your gearshifter fork, make sure its is perfectly in line with your " driven gear" (thats the technical term) if they are not inline perfect your tranny will not shift properly!
p.s you might need to remove your entire clutch, (plates, cage, hub) in order to get acces too it. good luck.......
